Diversion – Sorin Rosca Stanescu – Ziua – read here -
“The information we are getting is hallucinating. As days go by, the Investigation Department of our daily is discovering new elements proving the existence of real conspiracy in Cotroceni Palace. It is an electoral conspiracy, a project on an ample, illegal operation meant to alter the political life and falsify the true will of the electorate, of the people on behalf of whom Traian Basescu claims he speaks. And we are just beginning to unveil information unprecedented in the history of our recent democracy. For the time being, we know for sure about manipulation by public opinion polls and we know approximately about a possibility such as fraud by means of the wretched soft equipment belonging to the Net Consulting company, greedy for gains coming from public money, but with no auction”.

“The representatives of only 3 parties - the PD (Democrat Party), the PLD (Liberal-Democrat Party) and the UDMR (Democrat Union of Magyars in Romania) - went to Cotroceni Palace yesterday to talk to the President of Romania Traian Basescu. The latter is trying to achieve a PD-PLD-PSD (Social-Democrat Party) majority for the Parliament in order to pass the uninominal vote system in two rounds. He announced the future PM to be appointed would be someone willing to proceed to a reform of the education system as elaborated in the National Education Pact. As far as the absence of the other parties is concerned, President Basescu proved irritated at it“.

The negative vote – Cristian Unteanu – Ziua – read here -
“The persisting clues on the negative vote was the dimension prevailing in this double, misfortunate electoral campaign. According to the messages released by all parties, there was one single reason why to vote: to sack the enemies ! Enemies in power or in the opposition, it mattered very little. The poor electors were persuaded into thinking that last Sunday's election, like all the previous ones, was not the outcome of processes normal in a consolidated democracy, but on the contrary”.

Romanian President vexes Italian press – Anca Hriban – Ziua – read here -
“The President of Romania Traian Basescu claimed in his interview to the El Pais daily in Spain that Romanians weren't treated like European citizens, which the Romanians both abroad and in the country could feel. While in Madrid, he thanked God that Spain "hasn't got to act like Italy", which has vexed the Italian press reporting yesterday on his statement“.
Blackmail – D.I. – Ziua – read here -
“Bruno Stefan, a head of the BCS (Sociological Research Office), claims there is pressure coming from a cartel of pollsters serving Cotroceni Palace”.

EU deadline for Romania – F.B. – Ziua – read here -
“The European Commission is dissatisfied with the negotiations on the car matriculation fee with Romania. Therefore the institution decided to pass on to the second infringement stage. It is to be noticed that the first matriculation car is of a deeply fiscal nature, as settled in the Fiscal Code. So far it has supplied the budget with about 240 million Euro and Romanian officials wouldn't give up the money that easy. On the other hand, Brussels officials have started the infringement procedure also to make sure that the 112 European emergency number works”.

The debacle – Sorin Rosca Stanescu – Ziua – read here -
style="font-weight:bold;">Romanians invalidated the referendum. Carelessness was their response to Traian Basescu's noisy and threatening statements, allegedly made on behalf of the very Romanians. The sanction set by people was more severe than I had expected. And Traian Basescu is now replying to it by a rough idea: the mechanism of the referendum and of elections in general is not good for it allows 20% of the population to govern for 80%. This is a boomerang idea, since he himself became a President of all Romanians due to votes from only 27% of citizens. Were he constant, he should go all the way, like he said he would, with the French pattern: resign at once, like Charles de Gaulle did, after the French had dismissed his referendum. If Traian Basescu's end is now starting, so to speak, how can this state of things change the results of the Euro-election ?”.

The clod effect – D.I. – Ziua – read here -
“The electorate scolded the President of Romania Traian Basescu by their disinterest in the referendum on the uninominal vote system. Romanians sanctioned the PD (Democrat Party) too, by crediting the Democrats less than opinion polls had estimated. The party headed by Emil Boc didn't even get 30% of the ballots. Therefore the President's pains to get the nation's "blessing" for the uninominal vote system failed. Even if the Democrats are fetching today a project on the uninominal vote based on the President's pattern, the head of state may have to promulgate the government's version, but only if the Constitutional Court decides in December 5 that the latter version is constitutional“.
PRM breaks to pieces – Razvan Gheorghe – Ziua – read here -
“Because he isn't brave enough to take his party's failure in last Sunday's Euro-elections on him, Corneliu Vadim Tudor, a president of the PRM ("Greater Romania" Party), announced the party would step back from the Parliament. At the same time he asked Lucian Bolcas, the executive president of the party, to write him a letter begging him to change this decision, PRM sources claimed yesterday. And he did one more thing yesterday: after talking to Lucian Bolcas in private, he kicked deputy Daniela Buruianu out of the party, claiming she had made " awful statements" to the press”.
PIN president resigns – R.I.P. – Ziua – read here -
“The results of last Sunday's Euro-election in Romania have led to significant changes at the top level of parties who failed to get 5% in the scrutiny. Cozmin Gusa, a president of the PIN (New Initiative Party), resigned yesterday and he summoned the national assembly of the party for December 15 in order to arrange domestic elections”.
Conservatives' leader forgot his promise – Cristian Andrei – Ziua – read here -
“All the leaders of the PC (Conservative Party) were supposed to resign after the party's failure in Sunday's Euro-election and the leaders of those local branches who didn't even get 7% were to do the same. It was the PC president Dan Voiculescu who had said it just a week before”.
