In fact, he is risking his credibility in an attempt to turn this event into an indirect electoral campaign to serve the Democrat Party. As predictable, his messages will be the same with those released by the latter party. Why would he do it? Because if the Democrat Party wins the election of MEPs and the local and parliamentary elections too, it will be easier for him to appoint a prime minister and become a player. And he will try to mend his harmed credibility until then in order to win a second presidential mandate. It is a trick”.

The US ambassador's criticism of the way the Romanian MPs had passed the modifications on the Criminal Code made some Romanian politicians strongly react against Nicholas Taubman and accuse him of breaking diplomacy practices. Bogdan Olteanu, the speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, was most vehement, claiming the way Taubman had become an ambassador didn't entitle him to teach lessons against corruption. After the attempt to withdraw Romanian troops from Iraq, it is also the Liberals who are on the foreground of this new story that may undermine the Romanian-American relations“.

The US ambassador to Bucharest Nicholas Taubman said last Thursday that the proposed amendments to the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code in Romania were rather worrying for Romanians and for Romania's friends too. As for the amendments recently adopted almost without debate, he called them worrying as well. He claimed there had been no transparence for public opinion and no responsibility”.
