Each of the sides fighting in the war between the Parliament and the President of Romania Traian Basescu is making use of all prerogatives to prevent the opponent's initiatives. The head of state has often used his constitutional right to demand that some law drafts should be revised. The MPs refused to proceed to the modifications at stake most of the times. And when they made changes, they would change points different from the ones the President criticized. According to the Constitution, the President may ask that a law be revised one single time. In case of refusal from the Parliament, he must promulgate the law draft. Another means the President has got available is to address the Constitutional Court“.

The US Mediasind protests scheduled to take place next Monday in front of the Parliament building in Bucharest are part of the November 5 events organized by the International Federation of Journalists in 30 states: Stand Up For Journalism.
The protests to last between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. are aimed at warning public opinion about political assails against Romanian journalists and about the politicization of the public television stations and radio posts. The organizers claim there is need of a national strategy on economic support for the press. They also invoke the need to respect the Deontological Code of journalists and therefore high quality journalism”.
