The superiority of the uninominal voting system as compared to the list voting is one of the most subversive anti-democratic dogmas circulating in Romanian society. The naďve think the uninominal system can do away with the corrupted, the stupid, the members of the ex Securitate (Communist Secret Service in Romania), the ex nomencklature members and the fake professionals. This is sheer aberration. It is not the voting system that promotes or counters the corruption, amateurishness, immorality, demagogy or stupidity of politicians. There are more profound causes the voting system won't effect on”.

Viktor Orban, a president of the FIDESZ, the main opposition party in Hungary, asked the Magyars in Romania to fight for autonomy. He did this during a religious ceremony dedicated to the grapes cropping in a locality called Viille Orasu Nou, which he attended together with reformed bishop Laszlo Tokes. The Romanian government is taking responsibility for the uninominal vote today in the Parliament. PM Calin Popescu-Tariceanu is to present the law draft in front of both Romanian senators and deputies. The text is going to pass unless parliamentary parties come up with bill against the government in 5 days' time. So far no party has expressed interest in taking such initiative and the only party opposing the uninominal vote system is "Greater Romania" Party. It is to be reminded that the President of Romania Traian Basescu decided that a referendum on the same issue would place the very day the election of MEPs in Romania is due”.
