The debacle – Sorin Rosca Stanescu – Ziua – read here -

POLITICS

“The electorate scolded the President of Romania Traian Basescu by their disinterest in the referendum on the uninominal vote system. Romanians sanctioned the PD (Democrat Party) too, by crediting the Democrats less than opinion polls had estimated. The party headed by Emil Boc didn't even get 30% of the ballots. Therefore the President's pains to get the nation's "blessing" for the uninominal vote system failed. Even if the Democrats are fetching today a project on the uninominal vote based on the President's pattern, the head of state may have to promulgate the government's version, but only if the Constitutional Court decides in December 5 that the latter version is constitutional“.

“Because he isn't brave enough to take his party's failure in last Sunday's Euro-elections on him, Corneliu Vadim Tudor, a president of the PRM ("Greater Romania" Party), announced the party would step back from the Parliament. At the same time he asked Lucian Bolcas, the executive president of the party, to write him a letter begging him to change this decision, PRM sources claimed yesterday. And he did one more thing yesterday: after talking to Lucian Bolcas in private, he kicked deputy Daniela Buruianu out of the party, claiming she had made " awful statements" to the press”.

“The results of last Sunday's Euro-election in Romania have led to significant changes at the top level of parties who failed to get 5% in the scrutiny. Cozmin Gusa, a president of the PIN (New Initiative Party), resigned yesterday and he summoned the national assembly of the party for December 15 in order to arrange domestic elections”.

“All the leaders of the PC (Conservative Party) were supposed to resign after the party's failure in Sunday's Euro-election and the leaders of those local branches who didn't even get 7% were to do the same. It was the PC president Dan Voiculescu who had said it just a week before”.

“Yesterday before setting out for Spain the President of Romania Traian Basescu announced the presidents of both Parliament Chambers that his proposal was that Liberal Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu should be appointed a chief of the SIE (Foreign Intelligence Department)”.

“The President of Romania Traian Basescu started his visit to Spain yesterday, when welcomed by King Juan Carlos of Bourbon and Queen Sophia to El Pardo Palace. He is also going to meet with the leaders of the Romanian community there”.
