“Ceausescu was a president-player. But what kind of president is Traian Basescu, since he too announces his intention to arrange referendum as often as he pleases and on any issue he thinks important ? At least seemingly, he thus proves his trust in citizens, in citizens' ability to discern, and also his distrust in the political class. In Basescu's view, the importance of parties and of the Parliament is diminishing due to a mechanism to use democracy straight by referendum. Are these intentions benefic to Romania's future ? Are they the expression of the President's well-meaningness, of his honest wish to learn people's opinions ? Or is what he intends to do a grotesque farce ? Or even a dangerous project ?”.

“Although he became Romania's foreign minister last April, Adrian Cioroianu has often been remarked for his blunders. As for the latest evolution after the Roma-origin Romanian Romulus Mailat murdered Italian Giovanna Reggiani, the foreign minister seems to be same. Just one day after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had sent a press release announcing the minister, then in Egypt, had learnt the news, Adrian Cioroianu made a surprising or even racist suggestion on TV last Friday: those "who make us feel ashamed" should be deported to the Egyptian desert. When he realized what he had just said, the minister apologized instead of resigning“.

“La Stampa daily published yesterday a report claiming there is something sacred in the Italians' growing nedd for security and the main idea is that there are two imperatives guiding the policy on migrants: open the gates, but also close them if the case. There is mentioned that the Reggiani case has enraged even the new Democratic Party so much that the claim shaped is to close the games and interrupt the migrants' flux.
La Repubblica daily develops upon the dangerous atmosphere in Italy, effecting from a very horrible murder and leading to the idea of incompatibility between the Italian society and the presence of Romanians there. The editorialist adds that the increasingly violent atmosphere allows for the premises to start the Romanian hunting, unfortunately. (...)”.

“The atmosphere is very tensed in Italian cities, in Rome in particular. "Set Romanians and Gypsies on Fire" is written on walls. Authorities delete the words fast, but others get written at once. A cylinder exploded last weekend in a shop owned by a Romanian citizen in the locality of Monterotondo, in the outskirts of Rome, but no major harm was done”.

“The Brussels officials announced their view on the Rome government's ordinance effecting from the murder committed in the outskirts of Rome last Tuesday. The expelling of an EU state's citizens from another state must be grounded on individual motivations. The spokesman of EU Commissioner Franco Frattini highlighted yesterday that the expelling of groups was strictly forbidden by the EU legislation”.
