“The tragedy occurred in Italy, whose victim was a woman, has generated a real state of xenophobia, very close to hysteria. And that's not only in Italy, as the whole Europe is talking on the gypsies from Romania and on the Romanians. We are being treated as if we were the pariahs of this continent. Even one of the most brilliant football players we have, Adrian Mutu, has been hooted simply because he is brown-skinned and has a Romanian passport. What is going on ? Has the world gone crazy ? Or are we so guilty for the simple reason that we passively witness the exportation of gypsies ? Aren't our gypsies theirs, too ? Doesn't it seem that the European Union has to face a challenge beyond its expectations and, for the time being, it carries out the ostrich policy ?”.
