Ceausescu the playerSorin Rosca Stanescu – Ziua – read here -
Ceausescu was a president-player. But what kind of president is Traian Basescu, since he too announces his intention to arrange referendum as often as he pleases and on any issue he thinks important ? At least seemingly, he thus proves his trust in citizens, in citizens' ability to discern, and also his distrust in the political class. In Basescu's view, the importance of parties and of the Parliament is diminishing due to a mechanism to use democracy straight by referendum. Are these intentions benefic to Romania's future ? Are they the expression of the President's well-meaningness, of his honest wish to learn people's opinions ? Or is what he intends to do a grotesque farce ? Or even a dangerous project ?”.

Foreign minister's battalionsA.M.L. – Ziua – read here -
Although he became Romania's foreign minister last April, Adrian Cioroianu has often been remarked for his blunders. As for the latest evolution after the Roma-origin Romanian Romulus Mailat murdered Italian Giovanna Reggiani, the foreign minister seems to be same. Just one day after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had sent a press release announcing the minister, then in Egypt, had learnt the news, Adrian Cioroianu made a surprising or even racist suggestion on TV last Friday: those "who make us feel ashamed" should be deported to the Egyptian desert. When he realized what he had just said, the minister apologized instead of resigning“.

Italians prefer Romanian prostitutesBogdan Galca – Ziua – read here -
Although things are getting tenser and tenser in Italy and there are more and more threats against Romanians, there are Italians who have got nothing to lose because of the murder committed by Romulus Mailat. The much-appreciated Romanian prostitutes top the preferences of payers for sex in Italy. Although everyone has been expecting the latest events to effect on prostitutes too, it hasn't happened. Despite the strong anti-Romanian feeling prevailing in Rome, Milan, Venice and more Italian cities, Romanian prostitutes are all right”.

The atmosphere is very tensed in Italian cities, in Rome in particular. "Set Romanians and Gypsies on Fire" is written on walls. Authorities delete the words fast, but others get written at once. Our gypsies and yours, tooSorin Rosca Stanescu – Ziua – read here -
The tragedy occurred in Italy, whose victim was a woman, has generated a real state of xenophobia, very close to hysteria. And that's not only in Italy, as the whole Europe is talking on the gypsies from Romania and on the Romanians. We are being treated as if we were the pariahs of this continent. Even one of the most brilliant football players we have, Adrian Mutu, has been hooted simply because he is brown-skinned and has a Romanian passport. What is going on ? Has the world gone crazy ? Or are we so guilty for the simple reason that we passively witness the exportation of gypsies ? Aren't our gypsies theirs, too ? Doesn't it seem that the European Union has to face a challenge beyond its expectations and, for the time being, it carries out the ostrich policy ?”.
