“The leaders of 4 union confederations - Cartel Alpha, the National Union Association, the National Confederation of Free Unions in Romania and the Brotherhood and Confederation of Democratic Unions in Romania - asked the President not to promulgate the law on next year's budget because of lacking the unionists' amendments. The President promised to arrange them a meeting with the government's representatives in January 3 so that they would agree on a solution“.

“The Italian government passed yesterday a new decree on the expulsion of community citizens for public security reasons and therefore for the sake of preventing terrorism. The decree replaces the measure adopted in November 1 as response to the assassination of Giovanna Reggiani, allegedly a victim of a Romanian-origin immigrant”.

“Romanian Liberals have confirmed that the President of Romania Traian Basescu wishes to postpone signing the decree to appoint Liberal Norica Nicolai a Justice minister until the new officials of the CSM (Superior Council of Magistracy) are appointed. The head of state fears that the Liberal senator may ruin his deals on the CSM president“.


“In his New Year message His Majesty King Mihai outlines the need for "consolidated institutions heading the future" in Romania. His Majesty advises politicians to "serve institutions instead of making use of them", although the conclusion is optimistic: "After one year in the European Union, we can say that democracy and liberties have got their own places in Romanian society". He adds that despite things to catch up with in health and education and also in the lives of the elderly Romanians, economy has been developing and separating from the past, just as politics has acquired more dymanism and Romania has now got its representatives to the Parliament of Europe”.
